Lanelle took the kids to the mall one day and just happened to meet the Easter Bunny while doing some shopping. Cezanne posed for me last year with the bunny at the egg hunt in Sacramento,  so we just had to have one of the 2 kids for this year. As you can see Etienne was not so sure and after some bribery he did sit, but only just long enough, he was already making a dash for it when the photo was snapped.

A day when we needed to be out the house for a while so we took a trip downtown to visit the Shedd Aquarium. Etienne enjoyed the fish and when we finally found the submarine he was in heaven and we spent a good 30 minutes just letting him play and explore. He did very well playing and taking turns with the other kids. He even managed to stop for a few posed “say cheese” shots…

We joined Cezanne’s playgroup for Breakfast with Santa - a first for Etienne since last year we were in Disney at the time. At this same age Cezanne had been quite afraid of Santa, Etienne showed no sign at all and walked over and introduced himself and even got to take a stroll with Santa. He caught Santa out of his seat and quickly took advantage of the situation by climbing up the chair back.

The highlight for Etienne was the doughnut holes that auntie Kim brought along. They were jelly-filled and Etienne must have finished 4 all on his own.

I wonder if this was Etienne’s first trip into Chicago ?? Will have to check the blog history. We took the kids downtown to see the lighting parade down Michigan avenue and while it was so cold, they all loved it !

We decided to start a tradition by going apple picking again on the weekend prior to Etienne’s birthday. We went last year with Lanelle still very pregnant in the hope that the walking would prompt Etienne to make an appearance…

We were able to pick and eat the apples which Etienne thought was just fantastic. He ate a whole apple !

I was trying to think of another title to this posing - something like “Fish Man Found !” or “Dude’s a Fish” or “At Home In Water” but since they all seem to fit perfectly I just went with the Beach House title and figured the pictures could speak for themselves. Etienne found water in the form of the pool at our vacation beach house down on Anna Maria Island in Florida. We started out very carefully - he would be wearing a life jacket and had a super large pool noodle which we held and followed him around in the pool. We discovered that he did not want or need to be held and was perfectly able to hang on to the noodle and scoot-kick his way around the pool. The dude is 11 months old, can’t stand or walk yet, but he can swim !!

Etienne would join Cezanne and I for a post breakfast swim and then take his nap but after his nap he was always eager to get back in the pool. Here is looks down from the balcony above.

Below are just more of the vacation photos taken in and around the pool as well as on the beach. Etienne loved the beach and felt he needed to taste each and every shell he could lay his hands on. We had to continually fish things out of his mouth. In one instance he found the brush for cleaning the grill and was playing with it in the pool - see his reaction when Lanelle took it away from him :-() !

  Clearly this little man is at home in the water and he holds on so firmly that eventually we could leave him to swim “freely” - see the final photo.

Aunty Celeste had to give up trying to play her guitar when Etienne decided he wanted to see what it was all about. He made his way up onto the sofa and forced her to show him what she was doing. Here are photos of the two playing guitar, it was very fun to watch Etienne figure out what Celeste was showing him.

We went berry picking with Celeste and Ouma & Oupa. This was something that Etienne really could not take part in, but he was very interested in what everybody was doing. I carried him around and showed him the berries but there was no tasting for him, no berries before 1 year !!

After the berry picking we stopped at the local golf course for lunch. It really is a beautiful course looking out over the lake. Just below the patio was the putting green and Cezanne and Etienne just had to check it out and we got a couple of really nice photos of the kids playing on the green.
